Arbonne Protein shakes – INFORMATION SHEET

A good protein shake can be used as a meal replacement to lose weight or as a post-workout supplement to boost lean muscle mass gains. We need protein to build and even retain muscle mass (“muscle burns fat”).

The best type of protein shakes are those that contain a variety of proteins that are both quickly and slowly digested to keep your muscles fuelled through the entire recovery process. A product that contains digestive enzymes formulated to help your body absorb the maximum amount of protein in every serving. Our body can only digest 20 grams of protein at one time, any more than that and it goes straight to our waste shoot!

PEA PROTEIN
Pea protein is a natural plant-based protein that is derived from yellow peas, also known as split peas. This protein is highly soluble and easy to digest. This is a perfect protein for vegetarians and vegans who can’t get their protein from animal products. It has the ability to supply the nine essential amino acids that cannot be naturally produced by the human body.

What is it best used for?
Pea protein can be used for a variety of reasons including muscle growth, weight loss, and for those who are vegetarians or vegans and are looking for a way to get more protein into their diets. Scoop some pea protein powder into a post-workout smoothie to build muscle, use it as a meal replacement if you’re looking for some extra protein or are wanting to shed those pounds.

Arbonne is a Pea protein shake and comes in two flavours: vanilla and chocolate, sweetened with sugar cane and stevia,

PROTEIN
Each Arbonne shake contains 20 grams of protein from vegan botanical sources, including cranberry, golden pea and rice bran proteins. It has been said that the less familiar cranberry seed protein source provides amino acids, omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, flavonoids, amino acids, potassium, calcium and iron.

CELLULAR ENERGY COMPLEX
Arbonne’s cellular energy complex (Inner G-Plex), combines ingredients for a synergistic effect that it claims increases caloric output and metabolic response to food, helps reduce cholesterol and helps increase energy.

VITAMINS & MINERALS
An Arbonne shake also contains about 15 % of your daily requirement of vitamins;
A or retinyl palmitate,
C or ascorbic acid,
D or ergocalciferol, and
E or d-alpha tocopheryl acetate.

15 % and 20 % of your daily requirements of B vitamins, including;
thiamine,
riboflavin,
niacin,
vitamin B-6 or pyridoxine hydrochloride,
vitamin B-9 or folic acid,
vitamin B-12 or cyanocobalamin,
biotin and
pantothenic acid.

15 % of the recommended daily amount of many essential minerals, such as;
calcium,
iodine,
magnesium,
zinc,
selenium,
copper,
manganese,
chromium and
molybdenum,
as well as 3 % of your sodium needs and 6 percent of your potassium needs.

COENZYMES
Arbonne shakes contain Coenzyme;
Q10 – Coenzyme Q10 is an important vitamin-like substance necessary for organs and chemicals in the body to function properly. It also helps provide energy to cells and seems to be a beneficial antioxidant,
Alfalfa,
Kelp,
Ginseng and
Alpha lipoic acid – Lipoic acid is an antioxidant that supports detoxification. Coenzyme Q10 may help increase energy, and some athletes use it to enhance performance.

FLAVOURING
The chocolate shake is flavored with cocoa powder and natural chocolate, and the vanilla is made with vanilla flavor. Both varieties are sweetened with fructose, Lo Han — an Asian herbal sweetener — and stevia — a South American herbal sweetener. The vanilla shake is also sweetened with sugar cane.

PLANTS, HERBS and GRAINS
Arbonne shakes also contain the following Plants, Herbs and Grains;
Flaxseed – supports heart health, and alfalfa and kelp, which help convert fat and carbohydrates into energy.
Ginseng – helps reduce stress and increase energy.
Inulin – a naturally occurring sugar in root vegetables that when consumed by intestinal lactobacilli may improve the balance of friendly bacteria in the intestines and bowel.

OILS and THICKENERS
Canola oil is an ingredient in the chocolate shakes; the vanilla shakes have both canola and sunfower oil, as well as cornstarch.
Soy lecithin – an emulsifier that gives consistent textures to foods and stops ingredients from separating.
Cellulose gum and xanthan gum – both thickening agents, and carrageenan, derived from red seaweed and used as a thickener and stabilizer.

What they don’t have compared to other shakes;

NO SOY,
NO MILK PROTEIN
NO WHEY PROTEIN (which some lactose intolerant people have difficulty digesting)

NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS!
some real sugar, about 8 grams per serving (not enough to cause weight gain).
– artificial sweeteners, the result is “tricking” your body by making the pancreas think sugar is coming (and thereby get ready for it) but then providing none… this actually stimulates the appetite, and will make you want to eat more. The artificial sweeteners actually cause your core temperature of your body to lower, thus causing your metabolism to slow down. That, and Aside from the neuro-toxic effects they can have on you, they can make you fat!

NO SPLENDA
Recent studies have indicated that consuming Splenda may lead to neurological disorders like seizures, migraines, and dizziness.

Arbonne Essentials protein shakes

I decided to change my diet a little. The aim to reduce the amount of toxins in my body and to get more energy. I exercise and I eat relatively well but still seem to sluggish and tired. I also think that toxins in my body aren’t helping the old famous dimples we get especially on our legs! ( that’s for another post).

Recently I went to an Arbonne workshop and found out how much protein we actually need in our body. I was actually shocked. 1gram of protein for 1kg you weight! I assumed that protein is just for body builders and such like so it was a bit of an eye opener. We all need protein in our diet to build and even retain muscle mass, and we all know that muscle burns fat!

The Arbonne shakes are made from pea protein and also contain 20 vitamins and minerals and are only 670Kj per serve.

I’m using the Arbonne protein shakes which you can get from my online shop as a meal replacement – lunch in particular. Being gluten intolerant I can’t eat normal lunches such as sandwiches, so I tend to just eat a lot of cheese with rice crackers, which isn’t great. I occasionally still have salads but I wanted another option, so these shakes seem ideal. Plus I try to fit a lot in in my lunch break and making up crackers and salads etc is time consuming.

To say protein shakes are yummy, well they aren’t like your regularly full fat shakes or even fruit juices, but I actually don’t mind drinking them either.

My first thought of the Arbonne shake was, oh. Not really having anything to compare I suppose I was expecting your typical shake taste. I soon learnt to add ingredients to make them taste nicer. I’ve read reviews of people saying they are gluggy but I have not found that at all, personally you just adjust your ingredient to suit your taste buds. The “shaker cup” that you can buy from Arbonne has this cool metal whisk type spring that seems to prevent any non mixing of the substance, but they are best in the blender with ice crushed and berries mixed for a smoother consistency.

Personally I add items such as nuts, chai seed, frozen berries, almond milk to my shakes as a meal replacement and I am actually don’t mind them ( see photo below).

I’ve substituted my lunches for these shakes for a week now and I do feel more alert, I do get a bit peckish around 4pm so I have some nuts to nibble on. I will soon dig out the recipes to make protein bars using the protein powder, ideal to snack on!
